2B-BLUE advances sustainable aquaculture across the Mediterranean

The latest 2B-BLUE newsletter highlights how partners are developing innovative blue biotechnology solutions to support sustainable aquaculture, protect marine ecosystems and strengthen coastal economies.

Through a network of Demonstration Sites in Albania, France, Greece, Italy, Slovenia and Spain, the project is testing practical solutions that combine environmental sustainability with economic opportunities. Many of these initiatives focus on Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA), a system where different marine species are cultivated together to recycle nutrients and reduce environmental impacts.

A key lesson shared across all demonstration sites is the importance of collaboration between researchers, businesses and local communities. By combining scientific knowledge with practical experience, 2B-BLUE is helping create scalable and transferable solutions that can strengthen the Mediterranean blue economy for the future.
