2B-BLUE Promotes Blue Biotechnology Innovation at AZA4ICE Event in France

On May 5, 2026, the 3rd French T-Lab of the 2B-BLUE project took place in Sète during the final event of the AZA4ICE project, an initiative dedicated to promoting sustainable and circular aquaculture practices. The event brought together 56 participants from academia, industry, government, civil society and environmental organizations to discuss innovation and collaboration in the blue economy.

A dedicated session introduced the goals of the 2B-BLUE project and explored the growing connections between blue biotechnology and aquaculture. The session opened with an interactive activity led by Salomé La Ragione from Pôle Mer Méditerranée (PMM), encouraging participants to share their views on the applications of blue biotechnology across different sectors.

During the event, PMM and Ifremer presented the new 2B-BLUE mapping tool developed for project leaders working in blue biotechnology and innovative aquaculture. The platform helps users identify key stakeholders, funding opportunities, research infrastructures and collaboration networks across the Mediterranean ecosystem, particularly in France.

The event also featured contributions from Darewin Evolution, which shared its work on microalgae innovation and sustainable aquaculture solutions. Discussions throughout the session highlighted the importance of cross-sector cooperation, innovation and networking in supporting sustainable development and strengthening the blue biotechnology value chain across the Mediterranean region.
