2B-BLUE Partners Gather in Albania to Review Progress and Plan Final Steps

On June 3–4, 2026, the 2B-BLUE project held its Steering Committee Meeting and Final Event in Vlora, Albania, bringing together 34 participants from partner organizations, public authorities, research institutions, small businesses and local stakeholders. The event provided an opportunity to review achievements, share results and discuss how to maximize the long-term impact of project activities.

The first day focused on blue biotechnology and sustainable coastal management in the Vlora region. Representatives from local organizations and public authorities presented initiatives related to aquaculture, marine protected areas and coastal development. Discussions highlighted increasing pressures from tourism and infrastructure expansion, while emphasizing the need for cooperation, transparency and stakeholder engagement. During the Steering Committee meeting, partners reviewed progress across all work packages. Presentations showcased results from demonstration sites in Albania, France, Greece, Italy, Slovenia and Spain. These pilot activities featured innovative solutions such as Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA), bioremediation technologies, environmental monitoring systems and nature-based solutions to improve the sustainability of marine and coastal activities.

On the second day, participants visited the Albanian pilot facilities of Alb-Adriatico 2013 in the Bay of Vlora by boat. During the visit, they met with SME representatives and discussed sustainable aquaculture practices and the results of the pilot activities. The program continued with a visit to the Llogara National Park Information Center, where participants learned more about the natural environment and biodiversity of the Vlora region. Finally, the visit concluded with an overview of the Narta Lagoon to discuss the protection of nature and human development pressures.

Overall, the event confirmed the successful implementation of 2B-BLUE activities and strengthened collaboration to support a more sustainable and innovative Mediterranean blue economy.
