HCMR Showcases 2B-BLUE Solutions at International Blue Economy Conference in Ravenna

The Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) participated in the international conference “Advancing the Sustainable Blue Economy in the Mediterranean”, held on June 17, 2026, in Ravenna, Italy. The event brought together policymakers, researchers, industry representatives and innovation stakeholders from across the Mediterranean to discuss sustainable solutions for marine and coastal sectors.

Representing the 2B-BLUE project, HCMR presented innovative nature-based solutions designed to support marine ecosystem restoration, pollution prevention and sustainable aquaculture. Particular attention was given to integrated aquaculture approaches that recycle nutrients, improve environmental conditions and enhance biodiversity while creating new economic opportunities for coastal communities.

The conference focused on key topics shaping the future of the Mediterranean blue economy, including innovation policies, funding opportunities, low-carbon technologies and stronger cooperation among stakeholders. Discussions highlighted the growing transition from the traditional concept of “Blue Growth” toward a more sustainable and resilient blue economy that places environmental protection, climate adaptation and resource efficiency at its core.

The event also recognized the importance of projects such as 2B-BLUE in addressing major Mediterranean challenges, including climate change, biodiversity loss and marine pollution. Through demonstration activities, knowledge sharing and blue biotechnology innovation, 2B-BLUE continues to support cooperation and sustainable development across the region, helping build a more resilient and regenerative blue economy.
