MedBlueTech Summit brings Mediterranean blue economy leaders together in Alicante
The 2025 MedBlueTech Summit gathered more than 140 organizations, researchers and industry professionals at Casa Mediterráneo in Alicante, reinforcing the city’s growing role as a center for the Mediterranean blue economy.
Co-organized by Mediterranean Algae, BIOVAL, the Port of Alicante, the University of Murcia and several regional innovation initiatives, the forum aimed to accelerate sustainable, competitive and science-driven growth across the region.
The event opened with regional leaders highlighting Alicante’s strategic position for developing innovative marine solutions. Participants discussed key themes such as marine bioremediation, sustainable ports, biotechnology, aquaculture and international cooperation. Panels emphasized that nature-based solutions are already delivering measurable results, but scaling them requires strong regulation, better data, and collaboration among governments, researchers and industry.
A major highlight was the presentation of BIOREMED ALGAE®, a technology validated in the Port of Alicante that regenerates over 4 million liters of seawater per month and significantly reduces nutrients and heavy metals. The company announced plans for expansion supported by new investment and public funding. The Summit closed with a visit to the BIOREMED ALGAE® pilot site and a networking session. Organizers confirmed that MedBlueTech will continue as an annual meeting point for marine innovation in the Mediterranean.
