UMU and CNR-IRBIM Forge strategic collaboration to advance in the Spanish and Italian Demo Sites:
During UMU’s visit to CNR-IRBIM, both institutions took a significant step forward in strengthening their BBHubs collaboration under the Interreg Euro-MED 2B-BLUE project. In this sense, main objective of the stay was to define a collaboration plan among the Demonstration Sites (DS) of Spain and Italy. Throughout the visit, several joint activities were carried out, including strategic meetings with CNR researchers and technical seminars to exchange expertise between both institutions.
A key outcome of this exchange is a mutual commitment to apply each partner’s strengths in future DS pilot actions:
- UMU will contribute its expertise in digitalisation, particularly in support of pilot activities in Italy focused on Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA).
- CNR-IRBIM will bring its deep knowledge in marine microbiomes, applying this know-how to support the DS located in the port of Alicante, Spain.
The institutions also explored synergies in digital monitoring tools, AI-driven data analysis, fisheries and sustainable coastal management strategies, laying the groundwork for future joint funding proposals, training initiatives, and collaborative research exchanges. This strategic partnership reinforces the vision of 2B-BLUE: building and boosting a connected, innovative, and sustainable Blue Biotechnology community across the Mediterranean.
