Alb-Adriatico becomes Albanian pilot project for 2B-BLUE

On May 17th, 2025, staff members from the Albanian Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development (ACEPSD), together with representatives from Alb-Adriatico 2013, organised an official event to mark the signing of an agreement for the establishment of a Joint Research Unit (JRU) in Albania. This initiative is part of the implementation of the 2B-BLUE project.

The agreement, signed by representatives of ACEPSD and the private company Alb-Adriatico 2013, sets the foundation for the creation of the JRU focused on Aquaculture, Marine Biodiversity, and Blue Biotechnologies.

For the first time in Albania, stakeholders from across sectors—including private companies, academia, NGOs, and other interested organizations—will have the opportunity to witness the implementation of Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA). The discussions held during the event between scientific and industrial partners were highly encouraging and point toward the successful piloting of this innovative technology.

A key outcome of this collaboration will be the development of a Demonstration Site (DS) in the Bay of Vlora, marking a significant milestone for marine innovation in Albania.
