The aim of WP1 is to create a baseline for the sector, capture new best practices and actors and support the introduction of advanced blue biotechnologies.

WP1 will establish an analytical framework for the blue biotechnology sector to facilitate the testing of promising solutions through pilot activities. In addition, WP1 activities will include awareness raising and involvement of new companies/research institutions/NGOs/policy makers active in the selected value chains in order to consolidate and expand the blue biotechnologies community established by the previous Interreg MED B-Blue project.

By identifying and sharing key messages about the potentials of Blue Biotechnologies for the Euro-Med economy, WP1 will raise the interest of key stakeholders in the emerging value chains and improve knowledge for the uptake of Blue Biotechnologies, in line with EU guidelines, the missions of the governance projects and the Interreg Euro-Med Academy.

The aim of WP2 is to test blue biotechnology solutions for the industrial transition of key value chains to more competitive and sustainable models.

WP2 will test blue biotechnologies within an innovative model of demonstration sites to accelerate knowledge and technology transfer. WP2 will mainly engage SMEs active in the targeted value chains in co-implementation processes to enable easy first-hand knowledge transfer and co-create innovative business models. WP2 will raise awareness of the innovation opportunities arising from participation in Joint Research Units based on public-private partnerships. In addition, the project partners will transfer the results of the pilot actions by setting up demonstration sites and implementing the corresponding demonstration plans.

The aim of WP3 is to test a framework for technology and knowledge transfer involving quintuple helix and to implement the results at MED level.

WP3 will develop a collaborative innovation ecosystem in the field of blue biotechnology that promotes the co-creation and adoption of new blue biotechnologies.

WP3 will raise awareness of the economic and environmental values of BBHs and the most promising innovative blue biotechnology solutions to promote their testing and replication at Euro-Med level. WP3 will use specific tools (B-Blue Matchmaking Tool) and channels (social and digital communication) for coordination and dialogue with thematic communities and projects and for dissemination of results to quintuple helix stakeholders, including through capacity building of SMEs and policy makers.
