ANNEXES
Blue economy and blue biotechnology in Albania
Analyses and Recommendations on Blue Economy and Blue Biotechnologies in Albania
Albania’s blue economy and blue biotechnology have a strong potential for creating sustainable growth, jobs and exports. In the current document, we highlight infrastructure upgrades, innovation hubs, financing for SMEs, academia–industry links and environmental safeguards that would allow to scale aquaculture, BlueBio products and strengthen regional cooperation leading toward EU integration.
Study on the Scalability, Operationality and Efficiency of IMTA Systems in Albania
This study demonstrates that Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) represents a technically feasible, environmentally sound and economically viable pathway for sustainable aquaculture development in Albania. Strategic scaling of IMTA can support national blue economy objectives, enhance environmental performance, diversify coastal livelihoods, and position Albania as an early regional adopter of ecosystem-based aquaculture in the Adriatic–Ionian region. The report concludes with a strategic roadmap outlining short-, medium-, and long-term actions required to enable safe, equitable, and scalable IMTA deployment..
