Turning innovation into action: polychaeta launches a marine worm farm

What started as an innovative idea supported by 2B-BLUE has now become a new marine worm farm at the Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône near Marseille.

Polychaeta, a French small enterprise and part of the 2B-BLUE French Demonstration Site of Pôle Mer Méditerranée, is developing a local and sustainable way to farm marine worms using Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA). The worms can be used as live bait for fishing and as a resource for aquaculture.

Through 2B-BLUE, Polychaeta has received support to increase its visibility and connect with relevant stakeholders in the blue biotechnology and maritime sectors. Today, the company has taken an important step forward by launching its new farm.

By producing marine worms locally, Polychaeta aims to provide a more reliable resource while reducing pressure on wild marine populations. The new facility demonstrates how support, collaboration and innovative approaches can help turn blue biotechnology ideas into practical solutions for more sustainable fishing and aquaculture.
