The Importance of 2B-BLUE Publications

The 2B-BLUE publications are essential for sharing project results and strengthening the Blue Biotechnology (BBt) community in the Euro-Mediterranean region. Through peer-reviewed articles, conference papers, newsletters and outreach materials, the project ensures strong visibility and scientific validation of the methodologies, tools and  pilot activities of the project, while encouraging knowledge exchange and collaboration among researchers, innovators and policymakers.

These publications directly support the communication goals of Work Package 3, ‘Set-up of the BBt Innovation Ecosystem in the Mediterranean’, in two keyways. First, they raise awareness of the economic and environmental value of Blue Biotechnology Hubs and the innovative BBt solutions co-developed within the project. Second, they promote experimentation and replication across the Mediterranean region. Together, these efforts also contribute to building capacity among SMEs and policymakers, helping them better understand and adopt BBt solutions.

Among the published works, Argente-García et al. analyzed governance and sustainable blue economy strategies in the Valencia region and across Spain (1-3). Fernández-Martínez et al. and Jiménez-Casero et al. explored new technologies to improve sustainability in aquaculture, ports and tourism (4-6). In addition, Rotter and coworkers highlighted the potential of marine cosmetics for the blue economy (7-11), while Atak and collaborators proposed a new holistic approach to identifying algae with promising biotechnological applications (12).
