2B-BLUE Project Holds Technical Visit Showcasing Spanish Demonstration Site and Advancements in Blue Bioeconomy
On 25 November, the University of Murcia, together with Mediterranean Algae, hosted a technical visit to the Spanish Demonstration Site located at the fishing deck of the Port of Alicante as part of the 2B-BLUE Project’s Knowledge Transferring framework. Representatives from ENEA (Italy), HCMR (Greece) and DIAG4ZOO (France) participated in the event.
The visit focused on the Spanish pilot activities tested under real environmental conditions, with particular emphasis on macroalgae-based bioremediation and the ongoing proof of concept for carbon-emission tokenisation—an emerging approach that aligns with the development of future blue carbon credit markets. These initiatives were presented in connection with the pilot activities being carried out across the wider consortium, including IMTA solutions in Greece, ecological and veterinary biomarker development in France, and innovative carbon-technology advancements currently underway in Italy.
Participants exchanged perspectives on shared challenges and explored new opportunities for collaboration across value chains in blue biotechnology, sustainability, and digital innovation. The meeting contributed to strengthening cooperation among the Blue Bioeconomy Hubs and supported the creation of a transnational network of pilots and demonstrators.
This technical visit played an important role in advancing knowledge transfer and supporting capacity-building actions for SMEs, reinforcing the 2B-BLUE project’s commitment to driving innovation and sustainable development across the Mediterranean blue bioeconomy.
