UMU Showcases Marine Biotechnology at European Researchers’ Night
On September 26th, the University of Murcia (UMU) brought science to the streets during the European Researchers’ Night, held at the La Merced campus. As part of this major science outreach event — celebrated simultaneously in over 350 European cities — more than 520 researchers hosted over 200 workshops and 52 stands, offering hands-on science activities to the public from 6 PM to 10 PM.
Among the standout participants was the 2B-BLUE project, framed under the theme “The Sea of the 21st Century.” The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the role of marine biotechnology in ocean sustainability and the blue economy.
Visitors of all ages enjoyed interactive experiences, including science magic, visual experiments, theatre and engaging science contests.
Promoted by the European Commission under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions of Horizon Europe, the event highlighted the impact of research on everyday life in a fun and accessible way. UMU’s commitment to science outreach continues to grow, reinforcing the importance of connecting society with scientific innovation.
