2B-BLUE at the 2nd MED Innovation Camp in Barcelona, Spain

29/05/2024

Espai Bital Generalitat de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain, May 28-29, 2024 – 2B-BLUE was present at the Second Innovation Camp as part of the Smart Specialisation Strategies supporting Mediterranean Green and Just Transition organised by Dialogue4Innovation.

S3, since their first introduction in the 2014-2020 programming period, are demonstrating to be a powerful tool to plan strategically research and innovation policy efforts across the European regions and countries. Smart specialisation strategies can be the framework for place-based innovation policy for sustainability oriented to the delivery of the European Green Deal without harming the economic, social and territorial cohesion. The concept of smart specialisation strategies for sustainable and inclusive growth (S4+) has started to spread across EU with the new programming period, to underling the shift of the focus on transformative changes, moving beyond the simple competitiveness logic and encompassing broader regional and societal challenges.

The Mediterranean community of S3 practitioners gathered with the Interreg community during the 2nd MED Innovation Camp, organised by the Dialogue4Innovation Project in collaboration with the Joint Research Centre, for a 2-days workshop discussion and exchanges to find common ground to work together to address sustainability challenges and SDGs.

The working sessions were a space to provide tools and capacity building to S3 policy makers (national, regional and local) and promote synergies in the MED community. Partners were invited to participate in the Innovation Camp together with S3 policy makers from their regions.

The event targeted:

  • Governance and thematic projects partners from the ISE Mission and other Missions
  • S3 policy makers and practitioners from the Mediterranean region
  • Mediterranean governance institutions and programmes
